To provide doctors, teachers and students of the Ukrainian medical higher schools of the I-st -IV-th accreditation level with the Ukrainian educational-methodical and scientific literature the Publishing House "Ukrmedknyha" has been created. It was founded in September 1997 at the I.Y. Horbachevsky Ternopil State Medical University. At present, it is a powerful publishing-printing complex, its staff amounting to 50 persons.

The main directions in the activity of the Publishing House:

- producing printed matters for the needs of the University (books, journals, newspapers, brochures);
- developing and printing educational and computer programs, creating compact discs;
- rendering editorial and engineering assistance to the other printing-houses, organizations, enterprises and private persons;
- providing printing service to the other publishing-houses, editors, and enterprises.

The publishing-house includes the editorial-printing and printing departments, the department of advertisement and realization of products. The editorial-printing department is equipped with modern apparatuses (computers, plane scanners, and modern devices for saving and transmitting information, mighty laser printers). There is a small printing-house equipped with rhizographs, duplicators, these printing products in small editions.


At the editorial department the manuscripts of the textbooks, monographs are edited and corrected.

The Publishing house is equipped with modern computer techniques.


The mighty laser printers provide high speed and high quality printing.

The printing department is able to perform the whole cycle of developing journals, books in soft and hard covers and other printed products. The technology of full-colour printing has been inculcated into life. There are such subdivisions as printing, photographic, stitch-cover, paper, they being supplied with modern printing devices and other equipment (printing devices "Dominant" and "Romaior", thermoglue machine, laminator for pressing plates, sewing-machines, sheet-cutting machines and others). All the equipment enables to publish books in accordance with modern high standards.



Publishing textbooks, manuals, monographs, journals is one of the directions in the activity of the Publishing House. Annually the Publishing House publishes 200 different appellations with the overall production of 1500 page-proofs. Such textbooks as "Hospital Surgery" (L.Ya. Ladny), "The Latin Language and Fundamentals of Medical Terminology" (M.M. Zakaliuzhny et al.), "Obstetrics" (S.V. Khmil et al.), "Gynecology" (S.V. Khmil et al.), "Epidimiology" (M.A. Andreychyn, V.S. Kopcha), manuals "Clinical Surgery" (L.Ya. Kovalchuk and al.), "Urgent Surgery" (L.Ya. Kovalchuk et al.), "Pediatrics" (I.S. Smiyan et al), "Ultrastructure of Cells and Tissues" (K.S. Volkov et al.), "Practical Arrhythmology" (V.F. Moskalenko et al.), "Fundamentals of Nursing" (N.V. Pasechko), "Forensic Medicine" (F.H. Zavalniuk) and some others can be used by teachers and students of higher medical schools all over Ukraine.

Besides, the Publishing House produces 7 quarterly all-Ukrainian medical journals "Hospital Surgery", "Infectious Diseases". "Bulletin of Scientific Investigations", "Medical Chemistry", "Medical Education", "Bulletin of Social Hygiene and Organization of Public Health", \“Military Medicine of Ukraine\”.


Periodic journals which are published in the Publishing House

The other important direction in the activity of the Publishing House is creating and printing compact-discs educational test and scientific computer programs. At present, 28 multi-media programmes have been created. The abovementioned programs promote quick and qualitative mastering educational material without any fatigue and overwork.

Nowadays, at the Publishing house there is a studio “Educational chart ”where colored tables (charts) are made for the University needs.

The Publishing House signs the agreement with an author concerning their collaboration.

According to this agreement:
- the author passes his exclusive rights to a single publication of his work to the Publishing House;
- the Publishing House edits manuscripts, carries out its computer imposition, printing advertisement, realization of printed matter;
- the author receives a definite number of copies and author's royalties appointed according to the agreement.
