Teaching Process at the Department

The staff of the Department of Foreign L anguage and medical terminology works on the educational and methodological work improvement in accordance with the requirements of modern pedagogy, individual approach to learning and taking into account the student's personal qualities and his ability to work productively.

Theoretical and practical knowledge is provided for students of Medical Faculty, Pharmaceutical Faculty, Faculty of Dentistry and Institute of Nursing.

Students are provided with necessary materials, manuals, tables, diagrams, video and audio recordings, e-lessons, training CDs, teaching materials, etc. The methodological instructions for practical classes, lectures and practical classes themes are constantly being modernized and improved. All the necessary conditions for students 'training are provided at the department. For the effective cooperation between teachers and students, the instructors of the department use the Internet and Intranet system, particularly the web-site which contains all the necessary information.

In connection with the foundation of language labs at the Department of Foreign Languages and Medical Terminology introduction of cycle course "Audition" is planned.

Independent students 'work in the computer classroom of the department under the supervision of Associate Professor Prokop I.A.

The teaching staff constantly updates bank of tests for daily electronic students knowledge test control in the "Moodle" system and semester complex test examination.

We are learning to read and write. The first lesson on Latin phonetics for the first year students of medical faculty conducted by Associate Professor Savaryn T.V.

The following manuals were published at the department: "The Manual in Anatomy and Clinical Terminology”, the manual for the students of medical establishments" The Latin language", the manual for the students of higher medical establishments of the 1-2 levels of accreditation "The Latin language and the fundamentals of medical terminology", text-book "The Latin language" for the students of pharmaceutical faculties, the manual for the students of higher medical establishments of the IV level of accreditation: "The Latin language and fundamentals of medical terminology" in English and Ukrainian, educational methodological manual (workbook) in Religious studies in English for the foreign students, educational methodological manual (workbook) in Latin for the external students of pharmaceutical faculty, the manual" The Professional English Language "and some articles on education and methodology. The lecturers of the department work in working-groups in order to write Ukrainian manuals in English for the students who study on the specialities "Medicine", "Medical Prophylactic Affair" and in Latin for the students of pharmaceutical faculties.

Scientific work

The department staff works on the staff-complex scientific theme "Formation methods of socio-cultural competence of the students of higher medical institutions".

The basic scientific directions are the development and implementation of teaching methods of the humanities and social subjects respective medical students language competence formation under professional training. .

The department staff participate in All-Ukrainian and international scientific and methodical conferences and symposiums. 15 teachers work at their thesis.

Scientific and methodological subjects of the department staff researches reflect the department major and involve a wide range of problems in foreign languages teaching, in particular "Test technologies implementation in teaching foreign languages to students of higher educational establishment", "Methodology of teaching professional medical vocabulary to students using computer technologies"," Methodology of acquiring skills in professional communication by medical students "etc.

Educative Work

Each year the department staff together with the tutor groups perform thematic lectures, evening parties, organize visits to Ternopil drama theatre, excursions.
