Department of the Therapy of FPE was founded in May, 1979. The first lecture of department was k.m.n.,Ya.D. Íalitskiy. From 1980 till 1988 a department was headed by d.m.n., prof. S.G. Vaynshteyn, and from August, 1988 till 2009 - d.m.n., prof.E.M.Starodub. Professor M. V. Hrebenik is on the head of the department since January, 2010. From January, 1997 to the Department of Therapy was added Department of Cardiology of the same faculty, which was created in January, 1987 ( managed the department of Cardiology d.m.n., prof. B.I.Rudik). A clinical base of Department of the Therapyof FPE is the Ternopil city hospital N2 (a cardiologic and gastroenterology department - 120 beds).

Education of doctors
is conducted on cycles:
1. Preattestation education on speciality:
- 'Therapy';
- 'General praktika-family medicine';
- 'Cardiology';
- 'Medicine of the exigent states'.
Duration of cycles - 1 month.
Cycles are conducted on self-supporting basis. Cost of tour -780 Uah
2. Specializations on speciality:
- 'General praktika-family medicine'
Duration of cycle - 6 months
Education
of doctors - interns conducted on the cycles of specialization after a state
order and on contractual basis:
- on speciality 'Therapy', duration 2 years (5 months - on the base of
department, 6 months on an out- department educational cycle);

on speciality 'General praktika-family medicine', duration 2 years (for 5
months - on the base of department on the first and second years of studies,
for 6 months - out- department educational cycles );
- 'Medicine of the urgent states', duration of 1,5 year
During
the last years a department conducts out-department preattestation cycles in
the Rivne and Zhytomyr areas.
In the process of studies of interniv and students is used the computer test programs in the modes of training and attestation; academic fund of compact disks from the different sections of therapy, information from the world net of 'Internet', library funds of the Ternopil state medical university named after I.Ya.Horbachevskiy and Ternopil regional medical library.

Scientific interests of the teaching staff

Priority scientific work of department assignments is development and study of modern methods of diagnostics and treatment of diseases of organs of digestion and cardio-vascular system. The teachers of department are execute the fragments of the common-university advanced study, devoted research of mineral density of bone fabric at the diseases of organs of digestion, urinary tract and cardio-vascular systems, and development of methods of treatment of the osteopenics diseases.
Today on a department executed 1 doctoral dissertation.
The teachers of department published the manuals 'Diseases of digestion organs', 'Cardiology Lectures', 'Diagnostics of helókobakter infection', educational compact disk 'Diseases of digestion organs', more than 400 scientific articles.
The teaching staff of the department pronounses the lectures on foreign, domestic and regional scientific forums.
