DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL MEDICINE, ORGANIZATIONS AND ECONOMICS OF HEALTH PROTECTION WITH MEDICAL STATISTICS

Staff of the department: 3 Professors, 4 Assoc. Professors, 2 Senior Teachers, 1 Assistants, 1 Senior Laboratory Chief of the department –  Professor A.H.Shulhay.

The department was founded on the first of September, 1958 and began teaching with IV-year student.

At the post of chief of department was elected associate professor. K.G. Horshukova.

In 1972 at the post the chief of department was elected associate professor H.H. Konopelko who at the same time held as associate dean, after that dean of the medical faculty.

Since September 1983 the department was headed by Prof. O.M. Holyachenko. From the 1 of July 2003, the department is headed by Ass.Prof A.H. Shulhay, thanks to which in the first semester 2003-2004 to optimize the studying process was created computer class.

In 1966, the Department received a name - "Social Hygiene and Public Health Organization", that greatly broadened horizons of studying and research. Since 1994 the department was renamed to the Department of "Social medicine, organization and economics of health care." Since 2005 the department was called "Social medicine, organization and economics of health care with medical statistics and history of medicine."

In 1984 was created the Republican course training doctors - medical statisticians. During their existence about 2000 physicians from all regions of Ukraine was trained. Except for a small period of time (2003-2004) the course of history of medicine was thought on the Department.

Since 2005 the Department began teaching the bases of economic theory.

STUDING  PROGRAMME OF THE  DEPARTMENT

First-year students of medical faculty study the fundamentals of economic theory, forth-year students study the biostatistics and forth-fifth-year students study social medicine and the health protection organization. Sixth-year students study social medicine and the health protection organization with economy of medical care.

The Students of Medical faculty study on credit-modular system for method of "one day".  The fifth-year students of pharmaceutical faculty study the basis of health protection organization and basis of insurance medicine.

First-year students of stomatology faculty study the fundamentals of economic theory, third-year students study social medicine and the health protection organization and fifth-year students – economics of health care and marketing.

Forth year students work in a computer class on the cycle of "Biostatistics"

Doctors and interns study medical statistics, the organization and government of medical care managements of public health services is studied. In 1989 on faculty is organized. The first display classroom was founded at this department in 1989. Seven textbooks were published at the department. It’s possible to work in computer class from September 2003. There are programmers for subject control. Practical studies on “Biostatistics” are carried out in computer class.  Methodical directions are always renewed due to data from the analytic center of medical statistics

The main scientific achievements of department

· Social and medical regularity of disablement in Ukraine.

· Unbroken dispanserization in village region was founded and investigated in experiment.

· Theory of the organization of the Ukrainian system of medical care in market condition was founded in the chair.

· The main items, theoretical thesis, definitions economics of medical care as a science were founded.

· Medical and social regularity of medical care for village population was founded too.

· System of information supplement of government of medical care was introduced on local level.

· Methods of estimation in medical care system in Ukraine at the marked conditions were introduced in our department.

· For the last 5 years our scientist published 155 scientific works, received 12 inventions patents and defended 2 candidates thesis
