The Department of Ukrainian studies had a lot of reorganizations (especially the subjects, which were studied):

The Department of Philosophy and Ukrainian studies (the Department of Marxism-
Leninism at that time) was founded in August,1957.
From 1958 till 1976 the head of the Department of Marxism- Leninism was Doctor
of historic Sc. F.F. Chernyavsky.
From 1976 till 1991 the head of the Department of Marxism- Leninism was
Candidate of Historic Sc., Ass. Professor. M.V. Trafyak.
From 1984 till 1991 Department of Marxism- Leninism was headed by Doctor of
Historic Sc.,Ass., Professor V.P. Shkvarets.
From 1991 till 1998 the head of the Department of Philosophy and Ukrainian
studies was Candidate of historic Sc., Ass. Professor V.S.Sulko.
From 1999 till 2000 the head of the Department of Philosophy and Ukrainian
studies was candidate of historic Sc. Ass. Professor V.F. Chaykovsky.
From 2001 till 2001 the head of the Department of Philosophy and Ukrainian
studies, was Professor, PhD, I.P.Mozhovy.
From 2001 till 2003-the head of the Department of Philosophy and Ukrainian
studies, was candidate of historic Sc., Ass. Professor V.Z. Ukhach.
From 2003 till 2004 the head of the Department of Philosophy and Ukrainian
studies was candidate of medical Sc. Ass. Professor O.N. Lytvynova.

The Department of Foreign languages
was founded in August 1957. It was headed by Senior instructor of Latin
language M. Klymchuk. In 1973 Ass.Professor F.Okomeniuk was chosen by
competition as the head of the Department. He headed the Department until May 1995. In 1995, the Department was headed by Ass. professor M.M. Zakalyuzhny. In September 1998 new
subjects such as the Ukrainian language and Basis of Pedagogies appeared. The
name was changed into the Department of Ukrainian and Foreign languages. But in
two years these subjects were transferred to the department of Philosophy and
Ukrainian studies. The Department received its original name – the Department
of Foreign Languages. Ass. Professor candidate of Philosophy Sc., H.B. Palasyuk
worked as the head of the Department (from2000 till 2006).
In 2005 the Departments of Foreign Languages and
Philosophy and Ukrainian studies were joined to the Department of Foreign
Languages, which was headed by Ass. Professor H.B. Palasyuk.
In 2006 the Department of Medical Informatics
with the course of Physics and Special equipment was joined with Department of
Foreign languages and Social Studies which was headed by MD, D.Sc., Professor
V.P.Martsenyuk.

In March 2009 on the basis of Department of Informatics, Foreign Languages and Social Studies the Department of Medical Informatics with Physics and the Department of Philosophy, Social Studies and Foreign Languages which was headed by M.D., D.Sc., Ass. Professor A.M. Pryshlyak. At that time the Department staff included 2 Doctors of Sc.,17 candidates of Sc., 21 instructors, who taught 22 subjects. For 2 years 2 candidates of Sc. defended their thesis, 3 candidates of Sc. got the statuses of senior instructors. The methodical materials for distance form of study were treated and successfully used. The 2-shift working day was introduced for better optimization of study.

The Department of Ukrainian studies was founded on the basis of Department of Philosophy, Social Studies and Foreign Languages in June 30 2011, which was headed by M.D., D.Sc., Ass. Professor A.M. Pryshlyak.

The department staff works on the staff-complex scientific theme ‘Linguistic competence of the students of higher medical institutions, as a part of professional culture of future doctor'.

The Department of Ukrainian Studies staff works on the educational and methodological work improvement. Theoretical and practical knowledge is provided for students of Medical, Pharmaceutical faculty, Faculty of Dentistry and Institute of Nursing, using modern technology. In the regulation of ‘single day’ teachers provide the students with necessary materials, books, tables, schemas, video and audio records, CDs, methodical materials etc. The Methodological instructions for practical classes, lectures and practical classes themes are constantly being modernized and improved. For more effective work with students, instructors use Internet, especially Web-site of Department, where all the necessary information is based.

The History of medicine practical class for the 1-st year student of Medical Faculty, headed by M.D., D.Sc., Ass. Professor A.M. Pryshlyak.
The Methodological instructions for practical classes, themes of lectures and practical classes,bank of test questions in “Moodle” system for everyday electronic control of students’ knowledge, and complex semester test, constantly renew and modernize. There are all necessary conditions for students’ study.

The following manuals were published at the department: ‘The Culture of Language’ for students of higher medical institutes of III-IV level of accreditation, ‘Manual of anatomy and clinical terminology’,manual for students of medical establishments “The Latin language” manual for students of higher medical establishment the 1-2 levels of accreditation 'The Latin language and the fundamentals of medical terminology', manual for students of Pharmaceutical Facultys “The Latin Language”, text-book for students of higher medical establishments the IV level of accreditation: 'Latin language and fundamentals of medical terminology in the English and Ukrainian languages','Ukrainian language'. 'Practical course for foreign students', ‘Business Ukrainian language’. Work-book for Medical student, 'Fundamentals of Pedagogics'. Lecture and practical classes materials, 'Ukrainian language. Work-book for foreign students', text-book in Religion studies for the foreign students 'The Fundamentals of Philosophy' and number of articles on educational-methodical themes.
The Department staff takes active part in organization and realization of scientific and practical conferences.

The Department staff realizes active patriotic and educational work with the students in the way of realization different conversations in student’s hostels, organizes lectures on department and university levels, works with the staff of library to realize meeting for honouring famous people of Ukraine.
